Performance Evaluation of Rainwater Harvesting Systems – Toronto, Ontario
This study evaluates the benefits and limitations of rainwater harvesting systems for water conservation and stormwater management under water use and precipitation conditions typical of the Greater Toronto Area. Three rainwater harvesting systems were monitored as part of this study, representing commercial, high rise residential and institutional land uses. All sites use rainwater for irrigation and toilet flushing.
The results of the study have been used to refine existing guidelines on rainwater harvesting and develop tools, training and educational materials aimed at encouraging broader adoption of the practice across Canada.
