Low Impact Development Stormwater Planning and Design Guide – 2017 Update

GPL RGWhen the Low Impact Development (LID) Stormwater Management Planning and Design Guide was published in 2010 it was the most comprehensive guidance document of its kind in Canada and quickly became the primary resource used by stormwater practitioners in Ontario. Since that time, experiences gained from implementation and field evaluations around the world have provided many insights into how to design LID best management practices (BMPs) to be most effective from both treatment performance and cost perspectives. Furthermore, the Ontario Ministry of Environment and Climate Change initiated a process to develop a Low Impact Development Stormwater Management Guidance Manual in 2015 which will establish minimum modelling and design criteria for runoff volume control and serve as a companion to their 2003 Stormwater Management Planning and Design Manual.

Considering the rapid evolution of LID design and implementation since 2010 and that changes to provincial stormwater criteria are on the horizon, it is a critical time to update the LID Stormwater Management Planning and Design Guide to integrate updated provincial standards and incorporate the best design innovations that have arisen over the past five years.

The new LID Guide will include several new sections and will be made available in an innovative and interactive online format that will make it easier to navigate and search.

Stay tuned for updates!
