Home Heating and Hot Water Savings from Midrise Apartment Retrofit
Throughout 2022 and 2023, STEP supported The Atmospheric Fund (TAF) Retrofit Accelerator with data monitoring and analysis of heat pump retrofits completed in a Toronto multi-unit residential building. The retrofits included monobloc air-source heat pumps (ASHPs) in each suite supplementing existing electric baseboards, and a gas absorption heat pump (GHP) supplementing an existing domestic hot water boiler. STEP designed and installed a detailed monitoring system capable of determining the coefficient of performance (COP) of the ASHPs as well as other performance metrics. For the GHP, STEP performed analysis on monitoring data that was collected by a third party. TAF has summarized the key learnings, including the monitoring and analysis results, here.
