Course Description:
Low Impact Development (LID), an innovative stormwater management approach that treats, infiltrates, filters, and retains runoff at the source, is quickly becoming the new norm in Ontario. Construction of LID practices involves techniques and specifications that differ from traditional stormwater management construction practices.
Failing to follow proper LID construction processes can result in barren bioretention landscapes, clogged infiltration practices, uneven permeable pavements, and ultimately costly post-construction repairs. This LID construction training is applicable to anyone involved in the design, construction, and inspection of LID, whether it is in a large subdivision development or a small parking lot retrofit. Instructors will take participants through each step of the LID construction process highlighting potential errors, lessons learned from various Ontario projects and explain proper techniques.
Participants will also receive recommendations for specifications and tender contracts and apply knowledge gained in each training module to interactive activities based on a real-world LID road retrofit design.

- Identify and understand different types and functionalities of various LID practices
- Identify and understand critical LID construction process, inspection points and key principles
- Identify and understand critical information needed within an LID design drawing set to minimize misinterpretation of design details
- Understand LID construction considerations from project phasing through to final assumption/certification.
- Understand common methods for constructing LID practices and associated materials part of their construction.
- Effectively stabilize and establish vegetated stormwater management practices.
- Be aware of common construction pitfalls and how to avoid them.
