Performance Assessment of the Eastern Beaches Detention Tank

The Detention tank is located at the south end of Maclean Avenue in the Eastern Beaches area between Glen Manor Drive and Balsam Avenue and was put into operation in 1995.  The 8000 m3 tank was installed to decrease the adverse impacts of both stormwater and combined sewer overflows (CSOs) in the Eastern Beaches area.  The tank is divided into two compartments: a CSO control compartment and a stormwater control compartment.

The monitoring program began once the tank was in operation and consisted of continuous water level measurement, influent and effluent water chemistry, water toxicity and sediment analysis.  Based on the data and the system geometry quantities such as the total runoff volume, the detained runoff volume and the overflowed runoff volume could be calculated on an event-by-event basis.
