Course Description:
Watershed management science continues to evolve and it’s important to stay current with new, improved ways to manage stormwater through Low Impact Development (LID). The Conservation Partners (South Nation Conservation, Rideau Valley Conservation Authority, and Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority) in association with the City of Ottawa and the Sustainable Technologies Evaluation Program (STEP) are working together to offer training in Eastern Ontario on LID.
LID is a stormwater management strategy that mitigates the impacts of increased runoff and stormwater pollution by managing runoff as close to its source as possible. To implement more sustainable stormwater management planning and design, LID minimizes the runoff and mimics natural or predevelopment hydrology. Effective stormwater management is important for the continued health of our streams, rivers, and lakes. Currently, the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks is developing guidelines for LID.
The 3-day training will take place on November 7th, 8th and 9th and will include research and design, development tools and examples for construction and maintenance. The approximate cost per person is $300.00 for three day, with flexibility in attending 1, 2 or 3 days.
