Course Description

Traditional stormwater management methods are expensive to build and maintain. That’s why municipalities and developers are shifting to low impact development (LID) techniques, a cost effective way to better manager stormwater runoff on site. Constructing LIDs require different methods and specifications than traditional stormwater management techniques. When these are followed, long-term LID maintenance and repair costs are greatly reduced. In this workshop, local conservation authorities will share technical expertise and experience to help you learn how to construct LIDs effectively.  Topics in the workshop include:

    • LID common practices and materials
    • How to respond to tender documents
    • Verification of siting and LID practice design
    • Mobilization and sequencing
    • Material storage
    • Erosion and sediment control
    • How to construct LID
    • Finish grading
    • Stabilization and overwintering
    • Permanent vegetation establishment

Who should attend?

Contractors, project managers and consultants.

Learning objectives

1. Identify how LID construction differs from construction of a conventional stormwater management site.
2. Understand how drawing details in concert with effective implementation coordination for timing and materials during construction are critical to the success of LID features.
