Low-impact developments (LIDs) are widely used in new developments. Many factors need to be considered in the design process. Visual OTTHYMO has been widely used to evaluate LIDs in a implicit manner. From version 6.0, eight LID commands are added to allow LIDs modelled explicitly with readily available parameters. Water quality simulation is also supported with event mean concentration approach for TSS and TP. The water quantity and quality is summarized in detail output for easier review. Once the LIDs are sized with design storms, they could be further evaluated with continuous simulation.

In this course, we will first review the regulations, requirements, and considerations for LID design. And then cover the modelling practices with a case study.

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand regulations and requirements for LID design
  2. Learn procedures and considerations used in LID modelling
  3. Learn how to use LID commands in Visual OTTHYMO (VO) to model both water quantity and quality
